One of Sarasota’s landmark breakfast and lunch spots is Troyer’s Dutch Heritage Restaurant at 3713 Bahia Vista. With all-you-can-eat eggs, waffles and pancakes to freshly baked muffins and fresh fruit you can’t go wrong. Review

The Broken Egg. A longtime local favorite has three great locations... Siesta Key, Lakewood Ranch and Clark Road. Go for the bear-claw pancake or the eggs benedict with crab or lobster. It’s worth it!

Another favorite is Word of Mouth at 711 South Osprey Ave. or 6604 Gateway. With locally grown veggies, freshly caught fish and eggs from nearby farms you’ll be licking your plate and devouring the eight grain bread.

Dinner Seeking more than just a bite? Head to Main for plenty of action. Main Street is loaded with eateries, bars and nightlife. Places like Mattison’s City Grill and Divino Restaurant offer great food and live entertainment while Ceviche’s and First Street Chop House continue the trend on First Street.

Other good eating establishments downtown are Bijou Café, Selva Grill, Caragiulo’s, Barnacle Bills, DaGiorgio, Two Senoritas, Café Epicure, Patrick’s and C’est La Vie.

Plan to spend at least one evening at St. Armand’s Circle on Lido Key, it's fun, safe and shops stay open for that after a good meal…stroll. The Columbia with comfortable outdoor seating offers excellent Spanish food and the Patio Lounge is one of the liveliest spots for Thursday through Sunday entertainment. Tommy Bahama's Tropical Cafe draws a crowd of young professionals to its moderately priced seafood. The Crab and Fin and Café L’Europe are St. Armand landmarks with exceptional food and patio seating. Enjoy a cocktail and listen to piano and song at Crab and Fins patio lounge. Off the circle are more restaurants with 15 South Ristorante Enoteca offering musical entertainment at their upstairs nightclub Straight-up.

Looking for a romantic evening on the water? There are several. Marina Jack’s is right downtown on the bay front with a spectacular second floor view. Lido Grill, on the eighth floor of the Lido Beach Resort has unobstructed dining views of Sarasota Bay. Start with a cocktail at the bar and catch the panoramic landscape of Lido Beach, Longboat Key and the Gulf. Ophelia’s on Siesta Key offers dockside dining with views of Sarasota Bay. This is a favorite of Stephen King, author of “The Shining” and “Duma Key”. Head south, on Route 41, to another romantic spot, Roessler’s. Enjoy breathtaking views of tropical manicured gardens, a gazebo, and bridged pond.

How about a bay view... burger and brew?
O’Leary’s at Centennial Park is on Sarasota’s bay front with Tiki bar and island vibes.

An “in-crowd” favorite is Southside Village at Osprey and Hillview Avenues. Pacific Rim, Knick’s Tavern and Libby’s are most popular and all three offer outdoor dining.

If you’re shopping, catching a movie or turning the kids loose at Sarasota Square Mall, stop in at Cosimo’s for exceptional martinis and great casual dining.

Other local favorites are along Gulf Gate Drive with offshoots on Superior, Gateway and Mall Drives with a huge selection of eateries and haunts. Ranging from pub food, French, Italian to Japanese and Vegetarian, there’s Oh Mamma Mia, Paris to Budapest, Vizen, French Affair, Veg, Howlin Wolf and more.
